I think this is really beside the point. Sure, oppressive governments will try to take advantage of it.

But nobody ever expected the new age of transparency to begin like the happy ending of a movie. It’s not going to be a perfect transition to us waking up and things will be all better. Not with humanity as imperfect as it always is.

At least with the governments claiming they’ve always been about the “human rights” knowing that their dirty secrets are being laid bare, they will at least have the opportunity to stop and reflect on what they’ve been doing since the Cold War and hopefully make the right choices for all of us.

Maybe it is just bias given your name, but I think you - Turnabout Is Fair Play - are one of the more clearly vindictive posters here at LGF.
The bottom line is that Assange has been directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of no one. The same cannot be said any governments, especially not The US. Where are your pages complaining about the innocent deaths as a result of wars initiated by the USA in the last decade?

They happen EVERY SINGLE DAY. We are speaking of over 100,000.

What metric are you playing with?

That sounds like a dangerous fanaticism to me.

Really? I’m just calling things out for what they are. Julian Assange is an egomaniac. But that doesn’t take away the effect of what the organization did.

Hope is at the bottom of Pandora’s box.

Wow. I am one of the most vindictive posters on LGF. How do I even approach that accusation? Offer some proof based on my posts, rather than based on my posting nickname. I posted this page based on the fact that Assange was unconcerned about outcomes. I find that disgusting and irresponsible. ANd please do not tell e what to post. If you are so interested in a particular topic, by all means feel free to post on it.

He’s not telling you what the post. He’s asking you exactly what kind of damage Assange’s egomania may or may not cause, as compared to the possibly millions of civilian deaths and other “casualties” of the US’ wars and coddling of dictators since the Cold War.

I was not interested in making comparisons or in any sort of moral equivalency. My feeling has been from the beginning that no matter the possible beneficial effects, Wikileaks information is the proverbial fruit of the poisonous tree. Assange is a self-promoting egomaniac who is happy to sacrifice others in the interest of his objectives. The page was about Assange, not the many other injustices in the world.
