I know there are a lot of people who don't want the death penalty, but this piece of shit doesn't need to be among us.

I'm not offended when someone like this is executed. I just think that, as a general rule, the death penalty is imposed capriciously, it doesn't have a deterrent effect, and too many innocent people are executed. If this guy had to spend the rest of his life in prison so that a Governor doesn't allow an innocent man to die to show how tough he is, I'd be cool with that as well.

This one isn't innocent. It's not about showing how tough you are. It's about dealing out justice. Once this man is dead, it's final and it's over. He'll never be able to do anything of the sort again. No pardon, no reprieve from a court, no jailbreak, can undo death.

By its very rarity, his execution will have news value. People will hear about it, and think, yep, the man crossed the very last line, and he payed the final price.

There's nothing capricious about this case. If you had to pick just one man, of all the men on death row, he'd be on the short short list. Right at the top.

Shrugs. Capital punishment isn't about justice. It's about blood for blood.

Lawdy, there's no question this guy is as evil as can be.

But I'm opposed, generally, to the death penalty, for anyone.

Weird to think that on this, I'm more liberal than the libs here?

Just to be clear, I don't think Brewer is innocent. I was specifically thinking about the man who was executed in Texas who was innocent, but Perry let him die anyway. The same death machine that will execute Brewer killed the innocent man as well. I would prefer that Brewer spend the rest of his life in prison than that an innocent man be executed. But I'm not shedding any tears for Brewer.

Cases like this taste my opposition to the Death Penalty I confess. I remain opposed but I shed no tears for a cowardly dipshit like Brewer. The Byrd case god what a tragedy.
