God made a profound promise to the father of the Jewish people, a promise which he has never revoked and which is still in effect today. ‘I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse’ (Genesis 12:3).

Well then Fischer, your god is a lying, double-dealing, back stabbing asshole.

Unless of course you consider it some kind of “curse” that many of the anti-Israel countries in the middle east are swimming in an abundance of oil wealth.

Fischer is easy to dismiss as a nutcase. The “top” contender for the GOP nomination, not so much. Asked today about his support for Israel, he answered:
“Well, obviously, Israel is our oldest and most stable democratic ally in that region. That is what this is about. I also as a Christian have a clear directive to support Israel. So from my perspective, it’s pretty easy. Both as an American and as a Christian, I am going to stand with Israel.”

William Saletan at Slate comments:

“Whoa. That’s something George W. Bush never did. Bush never said he had a Christian duty to stand with Israel, because to say such a thing would have been stupid and dangerous. By framing U.S. foreign policy in terms of a religious alliance between Christians and Jews, Perry is validating the propaganda of Islamic extremists. He’s jeopardizing peace, Israel, and the United States.”

Coming on top of the day when the Republicans ordered the Fed to tank the economy, one is forced (yet again) to ask — just how bad can they get? JUST HOW BAD??? [bangs head against wall]

So the fact that Israel is a reliable ally and consistently democratic means nothing to him. And what is he babbling about regarding Germany. Germany’s not under any curse. Listen I am fine with Israel as an ally but we shouldn’t be supporting Israel because of religion, we should be supporting Israel because they’re democratic, a consistent ally in a hostile region, etc.

Nicely said.

How many wars have Bible-banging Christians started and finished, due to some No True Scotsman vision of their preferred religion.

what kind of ally or supporter prays for the terrible wars and disasters the myth of revelation has in store for israel and the world?
