Video: AFA debuts new documentary ‘Divorcing God’ that pretends constitution doesn’t exist
If you don’t want to click the link, here’s a summary:
Images of famous American landmarks and moments are combined with thumping ominous music as interviewees discuss the importance of bringing America back to our “founding princples.”
One talking head even observes: “No society that strayed from principles of morality survived.”
Here’s how the AFA describes the film:
Divorcing God: Secularism and the Republic is a look at what the Founding Fathers believed about morality and religious faith as pillars of our government and nation, and the dangers posed by secular humanism.
Religious faith as a pillar of our government? I guess that pesky First Amendment doesn’t apply anymore. I must have missed that memo.
And of course the AFA is going to debut the film in grand fashion at the Values Voter Summit in DC next month. The summit, in case you didn’t know, is a huge gathering of right and far right groups.
I’m a Christian myself and I got to say, this bothers me. I like the idea of a moral and just society, but I think the Founding Fathers made it very clear that America was NOT intended to be a Christian nation.
Some of the Founders were Christians, but they made a point of not inserting their faith directly into the government and for good reason: They’d seen the results of such governance in Europe and didn’t want that for their new nation.
But clearly that doesn’t matter to today’s Right wing.
