A lot of the recent criticism of male circumcision relates to the brutal and misnamed practice of female circumcision. However, if circumcision of a boy were the same they would cut off the entire penis and make the scrotum smaller. Back when I was in medical school it was taught that the rate of squamous cell cancer of the penis was far higher in the uncircumcised. There is a cleanliness issue as well.

Circumcision significantly reduces the transfer of the AIDS virus. Multiple studies have shown this to be true. In Africa, circumcision has become a major tool in the fight against AIDS. Holland needs to factor this into their decision.

You know, regardless of one's stance on circumcision, these "medical" arguments always make me smile. There's nothing here that can't be solved by condoms and regular hygiene. Pfft.

But what else can you expect from a country where a doctor can legally help you off yourself if you are feeling a little bit depressed because you’re unemployed.

Not true in the slightest.
