A powerful Republican leader in the Alabama Senate is apologizing for referring to blacks as “aborigines.”

Sen. Scott Beason said Tuesday he wants to make things right. He says his words were “careless and unnecessary.”

Beason was heard on recordings played in federal court earlier this year referring to gamblers in predominantly black Greene County as “aborigines.” He made the recordings while helping the FBI investigate claims of gambling corruption.

Careless? Careless is leaving the iron on, or forgetting to lock the door. When the first thing your brain does is associate black people with Aborigines (used as a derogatory term) that isn't careless. That's you being a fucking jackass. That's you being the YOU you really are, and now you're pissed somebody heard it.

Fuck him and his apology. He'll just watch for recorders now when he goes off on his racist shit, but he's still the same prick.

The term "aborigine" referred to indigenous black people from Australia (i.e. the people there first, long before white settlers). So how in the world could you think it a fitting descriptor for American blacks, whose ancestors were wrenched from their native lands and brought here by force?

So not only were Scott Beason's words bigoted, but herp-derp-drooling ignorant as well. I award him no points, and may God have mercy on his soul o_O

Aborigines? Well...that's a step up from the N-word. So he's evolving, that's good. Now we just have to prod him into the 20th century, then it's just a short hop to 2011. Soon he'll be a fully realized modern human being.

Exactly, "aboriginal" is literally indigenous to place--hence the "you mean Indians" reciprocal statement. This was not a flub, he was being racist, with a healing side of contempt for "primitive" people.

I think he needs some multicultural sensitivity training. In Arnhem Land.
