Can’t think of a good reason
First of all, I find it interesting that the law can force a divorced parent to pay for college, but married parents are off the hook.
Secondly, I paid for my own college because I had 5 siblings still at home and a nasty recession during my teen years had wiped my parents out. I don’t resent having to do this.
However, this article from local newspaper brings up the question of how people can be heroic for the general public, but jerks to their own family.
This man, Paz Ramos, an elementary school teacher, is renowned for getting the kids in his school to go to college.
His own daughter had to take him to court to get a lousy $2,000 for expenses at a community college. He says he didn’t want the money to go to the mother. The daughter eventually left school without a degree because of the emotional strain of taking her own father to court.
Couldn’t you just go down and pay the tuition bill at the college? Provide the funds in bookstore gift cards? Pay directly for dorm fees?
Not really sure what to say here, except that I hope the damage he did to his relationship with his daughter was worth getting to make her sue him for the money.
