Creationists & Global Warming Deniers Join Forces for New Documentary That Says Fossil Fuels Are Wonderful
An Albuquerque-based filmmaker called Mark Mathis has produced a film called Spoiled, which promises to expose the ‘outright lies’ being spread about oil by ‘the media, politicians and environmental activists’. Mathis says it’s now time to ‘fill up on the truth’.
…
The only clue to the film’s deeper content and arguments is the trailer that is currently posted on the film’s website. The viewer is introduced to half a dozen or so (unlabelled) talking heads, including Senator James Inhofe
In other words, typical climate-change-denying Koch Brothers propaganda 9_9
…but wait! There’s more! Where have we seen the name “Mark Mathis” before?
Seems he was an associate producer of Ben Stein’s execrable creationist film Expelled:
On learning of the pro-intelligent design stance of the real film, [PZ] Myers said, “not telling one of the sides in a debate about what the subject might be and then leading him around randomly to various topics, with the intent of later editing it down to the parts that just make the points you want, is the video version of quote-mining and is fundamentally dishonest.” Dawkins said, “At no time was I given the slightest clue that these people were a creationist front”, and Scott said, “I just expect people to be honest with me, and they weren’t.”
Mathis called Myers, Dawkins and Scott a “bunch of hypocrites”, and said that he “went over all of the questions with these folks before the interviews and I e-mailed the questions to many of them days in advance.”Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the American Humanist Association wrote a letter to the editor of the New York Times, writing, “If one needs to believe in a god to be moral, why are we seeing yet another case of dishonesty by the devout? Why were leading scientists deceived as to the intentions of a religious group of filmmakers?”
So once again, we see evidence of creationists and climate-change deniers being one and the same - doing their damnedest to erode education, increase ignorance, and keep America addicted to oil.
Let’s just wish Mark Mathis the same luck on his latest film that he ultimately saw with Expelled :P
