His path to the Presidency absolutely must include the Confederate states to succeed. No Republican candidate could denounce Confederate Symbols and get elected. This is the bed they made for themselves and they have to lie in it.

We should never forget our history he said. How about the fact that flag was used as a symbol to justify white supremacy for many years.

He was talking about the history of the glorious Lost Cause, in which Saint Robert E. Lee valiantly fought to preserve state's rights and the honor of Southern Womanhood from the rapacious hordes of the Tyrant Lincoln. You can forget the history of the civil rights movement, except you should remember that Martin Luther King was a communist and a womanizer./

What Perry used to say is not so relevant.

Teddy Kennedy used to be anti abortion.

One small difference. Kennedy became more moderate in his views.
Perry's on the other hand, have become more extreme.

Some truth to that. He really is pandering to the hard religious right.

If Perry renounces Confederate symbols now, do you believe that would represent an actual change of heart on his part, or would it be a mere calculation as to what is more expendient for a national campaign?

A related issue may rise this fall when Texas decides whether to allow specialty license plates featuring the Confederate flag. The plates have been requested by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a nonprofit organization Perry has supported over the years. A state board he appointed will decide.

Ain't that RSM's buddies?

Granvel Block, the Texas Division commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, said the organization appreciated Perry's position on such issues.

"I would give him high praise for saying it," Block said. "Honoring your ancestors, it's something that the Bible teaches."

Surprisingly similar to Waffen-SS veterans insisting on their marches being all about filial piety instead of Nazi glorification.

some please inform Gov Goodhair that there is a difference between "never forgetting" History and actually celebrating it.

Statues, plaques, flags, license plates, and other monuments dedicated to a political entity known as the Confederacy, which was bent on enslaving human beings under absolutely cruel conditions as a primary policy, does not deserve celebration.

If they want to "never forget" the Confederacy, I suggest a permanent public art display in front of the Texas Capitol of a large tub filled with dog excrement with a half-submerged Confederate Flag.
