Stupidest piece of legislation ever?

I foresee many legal challenges to such a bill.

It's up there for sure. Really punishing people for doing drugs in places where it is legal? How is that even remotely constitutional? Honestly both parties suck on drug issues but this bill is just awful.

Small government! Individual liberty!

Honestly, how would this even be legal?

Maybe they are figuring that when they ban the morning after pill/abortion/contraception etc., they will be able to prevent anyone from going abroad for it.

Sadly, I get the feeling that this was at least partly their reasoning behind this.

1. Suppose a family discusses sending a sick member abroad for an experimental treatment that uses "controlled substances". If I understand the bill correctly, the feds could swoop in and round them all up (and seize the home in which the discussion took place, perhaps?).

2. Nah. Police and prosecutors would never ever abuse their discretionary powers that way. /

3. It's a pet peeve of mine that there is more than enough opposition on the Left and Right to stop this kind of measure cold and make Rep. Smith very very sorry he introduced it.

Unfortunately, as long as voters in opposing factions are conditioned to perceive each other as stooopid and/or eeevil, it is difficult to form a critical mass of opposition.

Cui bono?
