Everybody has an agenda, truth be damned.

Yeah, well not pushing back is no longer an option as far as I’m concerned. I’m sick of the lies.

Also, acc. to Darwish he told her FBI classified it as a hate crime, and apparently they didn’t.

A Swiss cheese of a story. Smells that way too.

I will have no problem apologizing if at least his first claim turns out to be true.

But at this moment he just sounds like someone who intended to exploit the good will of the Jewish community and maybe wants a fast track to citizenship or something.

And if (if!) the comments at Bare Naked Islam hate site were left by him… then (if!) he’s not a decent person in any case.

Exactly.

Yeah, that’s why I pointed out the part about his status. I’ve seen foreigners pull all sorts of crazy stunts trying to get citizenship and/or seek asylum, especially since the United States recognizes persecution “on account of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group” as grounds for seeking asylum.

Heh, I would if I didn’t hate it so much. I agonize over every sentence, and even then I’m never happy with how things turn out. Always too verbose.

You know, with that kind of burden you’d have made a good Catholic.

Or, you’d be a candidate for the perfect Jewish mother.

Well, I used to be a kinda-sorta-weekends-and-holidays Catholic, though I was never baptized. Does that count?

Oh, and when my son doesn’t call or visit and then starts to apologize, I always say, “It’s okay, son—don’t worry. Once I’m dead you can take your sweet time coming to visit me at the cemetery since there’ll be no rush then.” He groans the moment he hears the “It’s okay, son—don’t worry….” part because he knows what’s coming and it makes him feel like crap.

Will that at least earn me honorary Jewish mother status? ;o)

BTW, I heard from a friend that Korean mothers are every bit as Jewish as Jewish mothers, heh.

“What do you mean you aren’t hungry?”

“Get a pen. You must have lost my number.”

“I don’t like her. You can do better.”

“A person can adapt to loneliness. I know.”

“I’m so pleased you got into Harvard. Did you know cousin Paulie is at Oxford?”

“It’s nice you are studying botany. Cousin Albert has a chain of pool furniture stores. He’s doing very well. But, as long as you’re happy…”

“I don’t think she’s for you. She wears too much makeup and not the right colors.”

“In the whole world, there are no Jewish girls you like? Go ahead, kill your grandfather. He won’t mid and he’ll be glad to be gone. But as long as you’re happy…”

Ah, I’m just getting warmed up…

This story doesn’t hold together very well at all. It’s like a Munchausen syndrome bedtime story for outraged converts to share in FW FW emails.

A little bullshit can be explained away as poor memory, but adding bits and pieces together like a string of Christmas lights to make a story out of it - the whole thing falls apart.

I understood what you meant. ;) I’m amazed that you understood what I wrote. Now that I’m going back and reading it, it seems like a confusing mish-mash. Oh, well. That’s what I get for attempting something like that at the end of the day.

Who knows what actually happened. Whatever it was, he may have gotten flustered once he had to deal with the authorities, especially since his English is poor (they mentioned an interpreter). It’s never a good idea to give too many details if you’re not telling the whole truth as it’s too hard to remember them all later.

The fact that the resources of the U.S Attorney’s office, the FBI, and the St. Louis PD combined can’t prove or disprove the story, makes it a real stretch for me to try to believe it. The wingnut blogosphere pimping it as “Sharia Vigilantism Comes to America!!11!” doesn’t help matters either.

Bingo. You just nailed the prevailing theme in many of these FW FW Outrage Mails that have landed in my inbox.

The previaling them in these FW FW outrages is no specific incident or person is named, it’s just basically issuing a throwdown to Muslims to dare fuck with White Christian America. Being as I really don’t identify with White Christian America, I have yet to see any real threat to me and mine. Granted, if I do, I’ll respond as unkindly as any other threat. But until that time, it appears it’s more of a way to keep the public on edge, in a frenzy, locked and loaded.

This incident, too, lacks any real information to make me think there’s an organized movement to punish Christians, or those leaving Islam, in our country. This sounds like a lone wolf incident or something deliberately made to look like something it is not to flame some kind of culture war.

26 What, me worry?  Thu, Oct 13, 2011 3:34:42pm

Thanks for the investigative reporting, CL! I’d also like to hear what Bob’s contact in St. Louis has to say if he hears anything.

Sergey posted a link on my original page to Bare Naked Islam which has some comments supposedly by Alsaegh in bad, translated English. Apparently he put Arabic through a translator and copy/pasted the English translation and in some bits, it’s almost impossible to read. However, he mentions there about the men in security guard uniforms. The date of those comments, however, is after Darwish (Sept 29 and 30) and I don’t recall seeing that part in the news reports either.

There are definitely a lot of questions and holes and I’m skeptical, also. The biggest problem for me is the broad daylight bit and Darwish even says “in broad daylight and heavy traffic” with no witnesses? On the other hand, would they be frightened to come forward? Seems they could do so anonymously. Also, that the FBI and police are saying so little and it was not classified as a hate crime which seems so obvious.

On the other side, he doesn’t speak English and could have been mistranslated, why the reports aren’t clear or even contradictory. The bit about going to the hospital without calling the cops could also be a cultural thing. He’s not accustomed to doing so, but when he got to the ER, they’re duty would have been to call.

The other two attack stories make little sense. If someone attacks or threatens you, you remember the date and time pretty much exactly. But again, it could be a translation issue.

You think he’s using the incident to seek asylum?

re: #26 marjoriemoon

Yes, it’ll be interesting to hear what Bob’s friend has to say.

Using this incident to to try to seek asylum would be a really foolish move. I have no doubt that immigration case workers, like judges and cops, have seen & heard everything under the sun and wouldn’t be easily fooled by such an outlandish stunt.

I’ll let you know if anything interesting comes through in the Google alerts. I haven’t gotten anything new on that one since Wednesday.
