Very interesting article—the discussion goes much better than the intro paragraphs, which is only a hook. Note that in a literal sense all RC priests are exorcists. it’s one of the “minor orders”, a step in the process of becoming a priest. On the other hand, virtually no priests actually would attempt or be authorized to attempt an exorcism. As the article states, suspected cases of possession would be steered to a church-friendly psychiatrist.
As an aside, this is points out a deep weirdness in the reports of Gov Bobby Jindal’s college-days attempt at a dormroom exorcism. That does not make any sense at all if Jindal is a kosher Catholic.

“I got your excorcism for ya right here” - (grabs ladycrotch).

You take a nonbeliever, put them in a room during an exorcism, and I guarantee the demons will be a no show. Gone. Poof. Congratulations, you’ve just been exorcised.

There are more exorcists in the United States now than at any other time in modern history, according to experts. More than 100 bishops and priests met in Baltimore last November to recruit dozens more.

This should be a Penn & Teller Bullshit episode, not a growing movement people train for. But - hey - if it pays well - I’ll volunteer.

I would get in so much trouble if someone suspected me of being possessed. I couldn’t resist the chance to take the mick.

At that time, Jindal was a recent convert from Hinduism to Catholic Christianity.

Some of what he describes I put down to the fervor of the newly converted. But you’re correct for a kosher Catholic, what he describes is NOT exorcism, and so I’m surprised a Catholic publication published the story.

Most of it, however, is what you say - a deep weirdness. Like Jindal himself.

Playing With AI-Generated “Art”I haven't really explored NightCafe's free online AI Art Generator (creator.nightcafe.studio) tool yet. I have only done some preliminary tinkering around with it but, I have to say, I'm more impressed with the results than I anticipated considering how little ...

Indigenous Americans Ruled Democratically Long Before the U.S. DidDemocracy: it was older and more widespread than we thought. At the Oconee site, called Cold Springs, artifacts were excavated before the valley became an aquatic playground. Now, new older-than-expected radiocarbon dates for those museum-held finds push back the origin ...
