In other words, I almost missed the apocalypse. What a downer. I always miss the fun.

Gotta check in with The Bad Astronomer.

Phil Plait has a number of problems with this interpretation of Bonilla's observation. Read read read!

Bolide impacts are bad news for everybody in the area...like the continent...or the entire hemisphere.

Now think of 3000 major impacts in a day. Ouch.

The atmoshere would heat to over 800 degrees farenheit over the entire planet and start continent wide fire storms. Massive tsunamis. A year of total darkness. Acid rain from gypsum and anhydrite beds impacted by the event.

Not a great time to be an apex predator.

When I first read the headline I thought it was about Tunguska, and I was all, "well, duh..."

What we were doing in 1883 that we deserved God's punishment so?

Is that a televangelist interpretation of the Bible Apocalypse?

God just thought it would be more awesome to come from below instead of attack from above.
