Excuse me? The law is the law.

I have no problem with an investigation into Gaddafi’s death, as there is a hell of a lot of confusion surrounding it. He was alive when captured, but died about a half-hour after. Was he killed by injuries from the fighting or executed? If it was the fighting, then the NTC would be let off the hook a bit, but if he was executed, it surely won’t put the NTC in a good light and at worse bring up comparisons to Gaddafi’s reign.

I did read that the NTC are delaying his burial as they try to (a) determine how and where he will be buried and (b) how he died. The NTC needs to be transparent in this case as they don’t want the people they’ve just liberated to think that they traded one set of strongmen for another.

According to the above article I linked, Gaddafi was seen in a video upon his capture with a head wound, but no chest and torso wounds that he would later have, so that raised the question of execution.

Yep. At first I assumed that the news of him resisting etc. were true, that would’ve made the issue of shooting moot. Now it seems that lynching or execution is not out of question. He was an evil fuck who deserved what he got. But the law is the law. You don’t execute someone who you’ve captured, no matter how evil he might be. The investigation, if there will be one, is totally proper, right-wing hysterical shrieks notwithstanding.

I don’t think it’s the concern for Qaddafi’s rights or upholding the law that is so troubling to Venezuela Lover as it is this concern compared to its ignoring other things that are far worse - & aiding/abetting things that are far worse. If the UN was everything it’s supposed to be (or even mostly what it’s supposed to be), it wouldn’t be so glaring a difference in behavior.
