Honestly, I don't see Cantor's action as cowardly. He was going to get bad press no matter what he did once he knew the protestors were going to be in close. Canceling keeps them from getting the 'confrontation' images and story they wanted.

There is nothing cowardly in refusing to fight when you cannot win.

He just shows he only wants to talk to folks who agree with him... for an elected representative, that is cowardly. Especially one who drummed up tea party folks to crash town halls last summer and gloated as those who disagreed with him squirmed. Yes, he is a coward. He can dish it, but he can't take it. And the OWS crowd is not being egged on by politicians, the likes of Cantor, but the citizens. Yes, he is a coward.

But that is not the job of an elected politician; namely only to avoid confrontation and do nothing if they can't win to their satisfaction. It may apply to you or me, but not those who represent both you and me.

Funny he had no problem catering to the TP but Eric's upset that there may be protesters there? I won't call him a coward but the word thin-skinned describe him pretty well. And I for one am glad Obama's pushed the job bill in his district. He's got one of the safest seats of anyone in the Commonwealth and yet he needs to be held politically accountable the most since he's the highest ranked member.

There's a difference between engaging the public and staying around only to end up the other side's hate figure for their protest. Cantor could not have accomplished anything by staying. For him it was lose-lose either way he played it, so he decided better to lose little than lose big.

Wow, what a brave statesman Cantor is. A real profile in courage.
