In some cases, protesters threw bottles, and tipped over garbage cans and Dumpsters. Oakland police said two of its officers were injured when a protester doused them with cans of blue and pink paint.

Okay, if the protestors are getting physical toward police, bad shit is going to happen. That's inevitable. You can't 'throw stones' and not expect some kind of pushback.

Pretty much sums it up.

Agreed. And once even less-lethal rounds are fired, the potential for serious injury is always there.

I really do hope that Olsen isn't hurt too badly. Traumatic Brain Injury is a horrid thing to have to live through.

Yes, I really hope he recovers. Sounds like maybe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a fatal brain injury is no way for him to go out.

I wonder if there's video of the throwing bottles and paint because we've seen police say things that were more truthiness than truth and injuring a vet in this manner is a good reason for truthiness.

The OPD has already been show to be lying. They said they didn't use flashbangs, when clearly they threw one directly next to Olsen's head as he was lying on the ground being helped by his friends.

That was my understanding as well. Thanks for the video.

The youtube video has the links to the OPD news statements saying they didn't use flashbangs at all during the protest last night, by the way.

I like how the only two injuries to the cops are from paint. Really? Fucking paint? If people were really throwing "big rocks" and bottles wouldn't there be injuries from those?

10 Eclectic Infidel  Wed, Oct 26, 2011 9:58:45pm

It doesn't matter. They're cops, they're untouchable. Throw a few bottles and act unruly and it's open season. Oakland cops are known for their violence.

Except vice versa is true too.

There's no mention of stones being thrown in the article. Where are you getting that quote from?

And even if they did, again, the police are professionals, the protesters are amateurs. The Oakland PD using lots of other law enforcement groups to 'help' appears, at the very least, to have wound up with flashbangs being used in contradiction of the Oakland PD's order. That's not good.

13 RogueOne  Thu, Oct 27, 2011 3:21:31am

I'm not 100% sure that wasn't a tear gas canister going off and not a flashbang but either way it wasn't appropriate. There were some issues going on in the Occupy Oakland earlier that the police wanted to get under control but this was a massive overreaction. 99% of that crowd were exercising an absolute right to peaceful demonstration. I would like to have some hope that some heads would roll after this but I don't. This was dumb, dumb, dumb.

I saw a picture of someone after getting hit with a rubber bullet yesterday but I can't seem to remember where....Anyone have a link to any? There were some brutal pics that should be spread far and wide.
