interesting article, thanks for posting. I think China’s ambitions are regional, and resource centric.

For now. Just for now. I’d not take too much solace in our distance from the region. Japan understands the regional role China plays as demonstrated after the unprovoked torpedo attack BY NK.

Do not retaliate. Or else. Spoken in the false flag guise of “mutual” restraint. And I believe that China has dramatically expanded it’s nuclear war capacity. China often counts on big quantities of war machinery to make up for a lack of technology. The pattern fits perfectly.

Solution?

Introduce more confidence-building measures, and think about some kind of SALT or START-like US-Chinese agreement, like in the old days of cold war, when similar problem occurred in US-USSR relations.

Resource? … absolutely. Regional? … absolutely … they are all over the S. China Sea like a hungry hound dog on a fresh meaty bone. Much to the aggravation of Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Global? … absolutely - check out Africa, Central and S. America. Who now controls both ends of the Panama Canal?
