NTC taps an engineer who had lived in U.S. for decades as interim leader
Libya’s National Transitional Council elected Monday an engineer who lived in the United States for more than three decades to serve as prime minister of the transitional government.
Abdel Rahim al Keeb won the job with a bare majority, gaining 26 votes from the 51 NTC members present.
He emerged victorious from a field that initially included 10 candidates.
Al Keeb, an NTC member representing Tripoli, has been a member of the Libyan opposition. It was not immediately clear when he returned to Libya from the United States, where he had lived since 1975.
