Starting back in the 60s the physical counter-measures taken to “secure” a communications or computer installation for the military or “other” users against data theft was and, I would imagine still is, mind boggling. My guess today, based on ~50 years of past experience, is that someone at Langley could do this and more without having to re-adjust the position of their desk chair.

Passwords are hopeless on touch-screen and pen-driven systems. I don’t understand why people are still building mobile devices that require entering them. A while back there was some interesting academic research on “passdoodles” — scribbles that served as a password — but in the end fingerprint readers seemed to work better. (Then again, since when has Apple cared about security? :P )
