Cool! Thanks for sharing that.

Think about this: Mt Everest grows by an average of 6.1cm/2.4in per year. Between 1953 to 2003, the peak rose 3.05 meters/10 feet. And since 2003, the peak has grown another 48.8cm/1.6 feet. (That is all assuming that my math is correct!)

First flight over Mount Everest (20 years before Hillary and Tenzing):
The Westland PV3 G-ACAZ closes in on Mount Everest, 3 April 1933. The photo was taken from the accompanying PV6, G-ACBR. Pilots were Lord Clydesdale and Flt. D.F. McIntyre

As a pilot, this picture makes my hair stand on end. These guys were in open cockpit biplanes at better than 30,000 feet.

Holy crap. Thanks for sharing that photo. Those pilots were either insanely confident in their abilities or simply insane. Either way, they should be in the Hall Of Awesome for that.
