New ballgame alright. But then again, the UN seems to have lost the ability to understand language, given the speeches that pass through the agency without even a raised eyebrow.

And that’s where all the diplomats are. Another slice of life through the looking glass.

Doesn’t makes sense because the cartoon was taking a jab at Netenyahu and his reaction towards the inclusion of Palestine into UNESCO. It could be used to side with this inclusion and wasn’t meant to support such an act. What UNESCO is doing with this “reprimand” is simply bolstering their very own critics. I’m curious if UNESCO will “reprimand” some of the Palestinian TV stations that carry the highly antisemitic children’s programming. Regardless of all this, this is not a rational move.

The report in Ha’aretz does the Boston Globe one better, by also reporting the contemporaneous and spot on response by Isreal’s Ambassador to UNESCO, Nimrod Barkan:

Barkan pointed out that the government has no control over editorial cartoons printed in the papers. “Ask yourselves what you did to make a moderate paper with a deeply internationalist bent publish such a cartoon,” he suggested. “Perhaps the problem is with you.”

Of course, UN officials, being entirely incapable of self-examination, will be unable to figure out the answer to that question.

There, fixed it for you.
