I'm sure you really do consider yourself a critical thinker.
But boy, oh boy: your 'analysis' and faux smart-boy snark is laughable, to say the least.

re: #1 cinesimon

Frankly, the blog entry I'm criticizing doesn't merit much more than snark.

Your criticism would reach beyond the pablum stage if you were to offer a relevant and cogent statement amplifying your beliefs.

Your remarks as they stand are nothing more than 'I don't like vanilla ice cream.'

Relevant to you, boring and meaningless to the rest of us.

What do you think, high school English paper or Freshman Comp? Tough call.

I find that I do not long for the days of slave-based/agriculturally- based/aristocracy-based aerobic activity.

The original really was posted at a biology group's blog. I just expect more from people who are supposedly highly educated.

I completely agree.

Shrugs. It's just another example of people using their 'facts' to 'prove' what they already believe. Such a phenomena is not limited to those of a particular political or religious belief. Every human being does it.

We’ve thus been taking part in multiple ‘Occupy’ activities, starting the first meeting of Occupy Oakland in mid-October, marches in SF, and the Nov 2 Oakland general strike. This was a great moment – young and old, blue and white collar workers walked and rejoiced together the whole day. Our sign said ‘rEvolutionary Biologists say: Capitalism Reduces Fitness!’

Well, it’s the objective truth. An flyer distributed in the demonstration was pointing out that an African-American boy born in West Oakland has 15 shorter life expectancy than someone born up in the hills. If that’s not reduction in fitness, what is?

I'm not from California, so could someone explain to me where exactly the capitalism-free hills are that fitter boys hail from?

Scientists usually make poor sociologists and vice versa. All disciplines of academia are not equidistant to one another.

Are you saying that sociologists are not scientists? I have sometimes suspected as much but that was pretty harsh.
