Freddie Mac Reportedly Paid Gingrich at Least $1.6 Million
Newt Gingrich is beginning to feel the inevitable glare of the spotlight that follows a rise of fortunes in the presidential sweepstakes.
Bloomberg News reported Tuesday night that Mr. Gingrich received between $1.6 million and $1.8 million from Freddie Mac, one of the two federally backed housing giants that have become punching bags for Republicans.
That amount is dramatically higher than previous estimates of Mr. Gingrich’s compensation for what he has described as his work as “a historian” for the troubled mortgage lender. And it raises questions that will be tricky for the former House speaker on the campaign trail.
The public amnesia over this man’s past history is mind-numbing. What does a Republican candidate have to do these days to fall out of favor?
