Juárez: Students take cover in gunfire simulation
Gunshots were heard Thursday around the level ground at Cebetis 114 High School. The air smelled of gunpowder, and the alarm didn’t stop ringing. Students were lying on the floor, hands on the backs of their heads.
They were laughing and giggling, too.
“I’m already tired,” said a young girl who was lying facedown.
This scene was not a real shooting but a simulation as part of a student awareness and preparation program.
It sounded real to neighbors, though, who called police and said they heard gunshots.
Molina said the school invited an officer from the Municipal Public Security Department to speak with students about security and how to react during an actual shooting.
According to some students, the officer advised them to lie on the ground, knock down any classmate who remains standing, stay away from doors or windows and not to look directly at an attacker.
