This is pretty much an outrage.

Living in Raleigh and witnessing first hand the not so subtle attempts at undoing the huge progress made here under the guise of ‘fiscal responsibility’ is reprehensible.

Clearly, there are issues in some areas with busing- an hour plus ride to get to school is absurd- but to tear down an entire school system rather than deal with singular problems is even more absurd.

Is our current system expensive? Yes, it is. Nevertheless, segregated and unequal school systems will prove to be more expensive in the long run.

I’m all for fiscal responsibility but my beliefs are that equal opportunity trumps that. There are some things for which there is no price tag.

A basic education is one of those things.

The GOP will be outrageously outraged when the Courts redraw the districts, just as they are in Texas where a federal court has thrown out the GOP’s attempt to minimize Hispanic voting power even though most of Texas’ population growth has been Hispanic.

It saddens me this is happening in America today. We should be better than this.
