Questioning the Accuracy of Jennifer Fox’s Miscarriage Claim
The Stranger in Seattle has been following the story of the woman, Jennifer Fox, who claims that pepper spray and assault by a Seattle police officer caused her to lose her child. One reporter has repeatedly asked her for hospital records that would support her claim, but she has not yet produced them, and has declined offers of assistance to get them.
There is more reason her story is sounding increasingly dubious:
Acting on an anonymous tip, we heard that Seattle police found Fox in a house nearly nine weeks ago. According to a police report in which the names have been redacted, a suspect who appears to have a three-letter last name “said she is three months pregnant… and began crying when [a suspect] was arrested. [The person with a three-letter last name] began holding her stomach and screaming that it hurt.” The woman was transferred to Harborview Medical Center. We are attempting to contact Fox to ask if she is the woman in the police report.
I should say at this point that a very good friend of mine recently lost a child, and I can appreciate how devastating a miscarriage can be, regardless of the cause. Add in the fact that this woman is homeless and only 20 years old, it is not unreasonable that she wouldn’t be willing to immediately follow up on her claim. Nevertheless, the longer it takes for specific records that confirm her allegations to appear, the less credible they become.
