The Demographics of LGF: An unscientific yet important survey
In my time at the site here I’ve gotten to (somewhat) know the regulars and a few details about their lives here and there, but other than the little information I’ve gathered from the comments and the pages, I still don’t know much about you guys.
I also know we’ve had a number of open registrations in the recent past and I’m sure there are a lot of newbies that are wondering who the people around here are.
With that in mind, I have developed a short simple survey for everyone to answer and hopefully we can learn a little more about each other and get a stronger idea of who we all are.
Here we go…
General
Your age range (or exact age if you feel comfortable sharing):
30
You have been on LGF this long:
About 4 years
Have you graduated from college? (yes or no):
Yes, I have two associates degrees. One in business (marketing) and another in media/communications.
Have you lived in a country other than the one you were born in:
Yes, I was born in Canada but I am currently living in the United States
Marital status:
Married
If you are married, for how long have you been married to your current spouse? Three and a half years
Do you have children? (biological or other) Not currently but we want them.
Do you enjoy your current job?
I am working two jobs at the moment, one in retail and one in hospitality and in for the most part I enjoy both.
Political
Do you consider yourself:
Liberal
Conservative
Moderate/Centrist
Other
Conservative when it comes to economy policy (I refuse to use the term “Fiscal Conservative” as I feel it’s meaning has been warped). A little more liberal socially. I wouldn’t identify as Republican though by any stretch. Also, when I say Conservative I don’t mean “spending cuts and tax cuts” conservative, I mean “live within your means and be careful about running up deficits” conservative.
Has your political leaning changed at all in the past 5 years?
In terms of economic policy I have become conservative, aside from that no.
Have you ever been actively involved in a political campaign?
Yes, while in Canada I assisted with the campaign for a member of the Canadian Conservative Party who did win his riding that year. I served, among other things, as a poll watcher on election night.
Do you discuss politics on the web anywhere OTHER than LGF?
Yes, there are two other message boards I discuss politics on though not as in depth as here. The other boards have main themes that are not political in any way.
Religious
Are you an active member of any religion or denomination?
Yes, I am a Christian
If no to the previous question, have you EVER been an active member of any religion or denomination?N/A
Do you consider yourself a spiritual person?Yes
Have you been in conflict with a friend or family member because their religious beliefs differ from yours?
Not yet, but I’m sure the time will come when this happens.
In general do you view organized religion negatively or positively?
I think I’d have to say negatively even though I am a Christian. That may sound odd, but there’s a lot I don’t like about the business of Christianity. That is to say I don’t care for many televangelists or megachurch pastors. I don’t like Church politics much either.
Do you feel religion has any place whatsoever in the Federal Government? (American Government that is) In general, no. I have no problem with a candidate who belongs to a certain religion, but I do not agree with laws specifically designed to promote one belief system over another (and the First Amendment agrees with me!)
About you
Tell us a little more about yourself, in 250 words or less.
My passion in life is writing. I write poetry, songs and earlier this year completed work on a first draft of a novel about the (fictional) work experiences of a grocery store manager in Wisconsin, mainly inspired by my own experiences working retail/customer service over the past 5 years or so. I’m also currently working on two fantasy novels. I hope to self publish all three books eventually.
I enjoy video games and have been playing them since the Atari and NES days of the early to mid-1980s. I don’t have a preferred genre of game. I play racing, action, shooters, RPGs, whatever I might be interested in.
I love animals and feel a house isn’t a home without pets in it (but not too many)
I enjoy cooking and baking even though I’m not very good at it.
I don’t watch many sports but I do LOVE Hockey and to a lesser extent Football.
And even though it been the cause of some derision for me over the years, I’m a pretty big fan of professional wrestling. I’ve attended more than a dozen live events (including Wrestlemania X8 and Wrestlemania 23) and I’ve had the opportunity to meet and get autographed items from a number of wrestlers, including Ric Flair, Bret Hart and Chris Jericho.
I’m also a gadget geek. Give me a GPS unit, smartphone, tablet, Ipod, etc. and I’ll tinker with it all day long.
