As with religion, it is presided over by a caste of spectacularly unattractive people pretending to an obscure form of knowledge that promises to make the seas retreat and the winds abate. As with religion, it comes with an elaborate list of virtues, vices and indulgences. As with religion, its claims are often non-falsifiable, hence the convenience of the term “climate change” when thermometers don’t oblige the expected trend lines. As with religion, it is harsh toward skeptics, heretics and other “deniers.” And as with religion, it is susceptible to the earthly temptations of money, power, politics, arrogance and deceit.

This fantasy was filmed in project-a-vision, a wingnut production.

This has been a truly terrible year in terms of climate damage - and still counting. As it gets more and more impossible to deny the obvious - because the changes for the worst are happening very quickly - the WSJ, Fox News, GOP/TP, Koch types will push harder and harder with anti-science.

Bret Stephens, ey?

Someone who apparently was treated to first class education at a couple of the more famous schools.

Oh well, higher education doesn't come with a warrantee.

Indeed. The Christmas tree farm near my home lost most of its trees and is now going out of business. All these "unverifiable" claims are all too verifiable. Thermometers are all too obliging in reporting these trends, though OF COURSE there will be some places that are cooler than usual, alongside the many more places that are warmer, and OF COURSE there will be the occasional year that is cooler worldwide than the one before, alongside more years that are warmer than the previous.

It's not part of my religion to "believe" that those trees died. It's just a fact. And believing facts, well, that's a lodestone. Not negotiable. Call it religion if you will, WSJ.
