Social Security is bankrupt? Incorrect. The system is structured in such a way that it cannot keep up with demographic developments, and its surplus is subject to heavy leverage. But of course, you simply latch on to right-wing talking points and make a run for some vague rhetorical endzone where you can high-five the rest of the know-nothing party members.

I agree with your assessment of Social Security. If a system cannot sustain itself, it's bankrupt. As Keynes says: Anything that can't go on, won't.

How's Chile's private system performing by contrast? Assets under management amount to savings around 74% of GNP. That leaves the country with no net debt. Anyone with a brain would prefer that system to the empty coffer nightmare we inevitably face. You and I will get a negative return on our contributions with the very money we could be saving for our own retirement. Something has got to be done unless you enjoy zero paychecks from irresponsible people who get their hands on your money first and keep it for themselves.

Down ding because the Investor's article, like so much from that rag, is simply blustering for political or financial purposes.

False attribution to causes, of whatever effect is under discussion, is quite common and especially so in regards to financial issues (and frankly anything to do with money.)

You are creating a new definition of "bankrupt" out of the thin air which is the primary cloth from which many right wing facts are cut. It's the always the same story: if the facts don't fit the scary meme of the day, just invent new facts - Paul Revere rode to warn the British, George Washington was anti-slavery, separation of Church and State was never intended to be part of the Constitution. Boring.
