Wingnut Virginia AG Cuccinelli to run for governor
Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli II has not commented on today’s Washington Post story as yet. But I’m taking a wild guess that the story’s legit. He has certainly been playing to the crazy elements in the GOP. The WaPo mentions a few of his notable crusades:
He advised public colleges that they could not adopt nondiscrimination policies protecting gay people. And he tangled with academics at the University of Virginia when he subpoenaed some documents related to the work of a former climate scientist.
But Cuccinelli has garnered the most attention for suing the federal government over the constitutionality of the federal health-care overhaul. He won the first round of the suit but lost the second. He appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Current Lieutenant Gov. Bill Bolling (R) has the endorsement of sitting Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R), who cannot run for re-election after his term expires in 2014. Cuccinelli will need to challenge Bolling in the primary.
