Walmart bomb scare leads to arrest
Deputies were called out to the Walmart at 34399 N. Cave Creek Road at about 4:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day after the store manager discovered what appeared to be an explosive device in the employee break room.
The manager immediately evacuated 20 employees and 20 customers. The MCSO bomb squad responded to the scene safely removed the device. The store re-opened a few hours later.
The device turned out not to be an explosive.
“I take all these incidents very serious and that is why I have again this year activated my Mall Posse to keep shoppers safe this holiday season,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a news release.
Granillo, who was an employee at the store, is facing two felony charges — one count of knowingly giving false impression and one of misconduct of a simulated explosive.
