Who in the hell needs $145 m for any job? What occupation justifies THAT much money? I don't understand it.

And let me state for the record that I don't mind if the execs want to pay themselves a shitload of money, BUT if that comes at the expense of the workers, I have a problem.

As someone who has been under a wage freeze for sometime and seen his health care and other benefits scaled back (and the costs of those benefits rise), I don't exactly applaud this news.

How exactly does it benefit any company to give an exec a few extra million instead of using that money where it is more urgently needed?

This is how I feel. Got no problem if they want to pay themselves well but it's coming at the expense of other people and then many of tehse guys act like they're being taxed too much. I'd be happy with a million dollar raise heh. Wouldn't know what to with some of the "bonuses" these guys get.

Win big for the shareholders (and most of those are pensions, both public and private) and the board OK's the big payout. A lot of that compensation is directly tied to share performance. The more pensions are funded the less stress there is on government safety nets.

Many of these companies are union shops with contracts negotiated and agreed to.

I don't know what the answer is but I do know if shareholders- both individual and pension- are winners it's pretty hard to fault the guy who made it possible.

Capitalism is the worst economic system.

Except for all the others.

Here's one system that's better than capitalism and any other -ism. It's not a matter of if we'll convert to it, but when (because the alternative is along the lines of total human extinction after a complete ecosystem collapse).

Interesting idea.

Whether or not it will work in the real world is another matter.
