Indeed, this is a major step backwards from what the Bush Administration sought to accomplish by trying to limit the fight to Muslim extremists - jihadis, rather than trying to lump together the entire Muslim community here and abroad.

Clear evidence that Newt is not as smart as he thinks.

President Bush, and now President Obama adhere to a similar view on extremists within Islam that are perpetuating the violence, rather than smearing the entire religion and its adherents. What Newt and his ilk are supposing and doing is nothing less than a smear of all Muslims. It’s Islamophobia and xenophobia all rolled into one ball of hate and mistrust.

It also plays very well to the base. Don’t they also consider President Bush a liberal these days?

Yep, pure lefty RINO, like Goldwater or Eisenhower.

I still don’t get it. In view of the indisputable fact that establishment of religion is specifically banned under the Constitution, how do these “anti-sharia” types think it’s ever going to become the law of the United States?

I mean, can someone identify the actual steps these fools think will lead to such an outcome, aside from the very unlikely scenario of the vast majority of Americans converting to fundamentalist Islam?

It seems to me it’s like orthodox Jews deciding to “live under” Jewish law. This means they will follow the dietary restrictions, the rules regarding personal (and sexual) relationships, etc. but if one of them say, murders a Wiccan, they can’t get away with it by claiming they were only following the Old Testament law saying “thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.”

I’ve poked around such websites as the Shrieking Harpy’s about as much as I can stomach, but I can’t find any description of exactly how this imposition of Sharia law is going to happen.

Newt made it very clear. He is concerned that America will become a secular atheist country, which would obviously be dominated by radical Islamists. I mean really, what else would atheists vote for other than strict application of sharia law?/

Newt Gingrich, Forever Disgraced And Pandering Former Speaker of The House, would gladly tear down the wall of separation between church and state. Just like the Islamist extremists he’s worried about would do. They all want to protect the Constitution, as long as it serves them. Just like how they pick and choose the scripture. Jackals all.

I thought he was concerned that America will become a socialist country dominated by fascists. I’m so confused now…

But really, I’m usually pretty good at translating wingnut-ese, but this one has me stumped. It’s like the underpants gnomes from South Park:

Step 1: Steal underpants
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Profit!

-or-

Step 1: Muslims live in America
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Constitution suspended, Islamic religious law imposed!

It’s a sad commentary on the state of the Republican Party when George W. Bush is held up as a paragon of tolerance.
