Newt; Perry Both Miss Deadline To Get On Virginia Ballot
Rule one of political campaigning: get on the ballot. You don’t get on the ballot, you can’t win an election.
Yet, that’s exactly what’s happened with both Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry. Neither could get the 10,000 signatures required to get on the ballot in Virginia. Both will miss this crucial state, and that benefits none other than Mitt Romney.
How could they blow things this badly? For Newt, this is the state of his current residence. For Perry, it’s another sign of a completely screwed up campaign that couldn’t figure out how to take advantage of the warchest campaign funds he put together.
Ground game is all important throughout the race, and that candidates who are presumed to be credible national candidates can’t even manage to get on the ballot shows that their campaigns are seriously lacking and that their campaigns leave much to be desired - and that doesn’t even begin to address their policy choices.
