China want’s it both ways. They want to establish themselves as the premier of history and cultural identity while at the same time trading with Western Nations whose most influential export has been popular culture. They afraid of better ideas creeping into the masses.

I have this recollection from my childhood in the 1960s of complaints that the reds were trying to corrupt our youth through drugs and rock and roll
I guess it worked, now we have FOX news and the tea party

I have a friend who sent me some pictures from Shanghai taken in December, a few from a wedding he was invited to attend and from the office Christmas party. Not too hard to see a strong Western influence in the photos.. link
