Cyprus, Turkish media reporting that Iranian and Russian arms shipments siezed on their way to Syria
In Turkey, four captured trucks are being reported as having carried arms shipments from Iran intended for Syria; Meanwhile, reports coming out of Cyprus indicate the capture of a massive Russian weapons shipment on its way to Syria:
The Turkish media is reporting that four trucks from Iran were seized on suspicion of carrying arms shipments to Syria. Turkish officials confirmed seizing the materials and bringing them to the capital, Ankara, for further examination. It is still not determined whether the material is for military use.
The Turkish daily newspaper Milliyet reported that the trucks were apprehended on Tuesday night at the Kilis border crossing after a tip was called in.
Cypriot media is also reporting that arms cargo shipments have been seized en route to Syria.
Various Cypriot media sources say the vessel carrying cargo stopped for refueling at a port in Limassol and was intercepted by Cypriot authorities.
Politis newspaper reported that the ship was carrying 60 tons of ammunition from St. Petersberg, Russia to the port of Latakia in Syria.
A second newspaper, Simerini, suggested that the ship was carrying 35 tons of explosives, weapons, and ammunition.
