Israel: Arab Hackers attack Hospitals, Ha’aretz, Transportation and Festival websites
The cyber war continues to claim more victims. After breaking into the websites of two hospitals, hackers simultaneously targeted the Dan Public Transportation company website, the Israel Festival website, the Cinematheque website and the website of the Haaretz newspaper on Wednesday.
Surfers who entered the Israel Festival website found the slogan “Free Palestine, death to Israel.” A message in the other websites said that four more “Gilad Shalits” would be abducted and that “Jew = Nazi.”The current cyber attack began when the websites of the Tel Hashomer and Assuta medical centers, two of the largest medical centers in central Israel, were hacked Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesman for Tel Hashomer confirmed that a breach was detected by the system’s security mechanisms, stressing that the cyber attack was foiled and that no harm came the site or its content.
Around noon Wednesday, the Assuta Medical Center reported a similar cyber attack, saying the hospital’s website’s firewall was able to successfully tackle the breach.
Dror Admon, who heads Assuta’s Systems and Infrastructure department, told Ynet that “the hackers’ attempts to breach the systems have failed. Patient information was not compromised.”The cyber assault on the medical centers is the latest in a string of hacks into various Israeli websites, including those of credit card companies, El Al and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.
