There is outrage in parts of Spanish society following declarations made over Christmas from the Bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Álvarez.
His comments were that there are youngsters who want to be abused, and he compared that abuse to homosexuality, describing them both as prejudicial to society. He said that on occasions the abuse happened because the there are children who consent to it.
‘There are 13 year old adolescents who are under age and who are perfectly in agreement with, and what’s more wanting it, and if you are careless they will even provoke you’, he said.
A kid consenting is like a kid saying their dad is superman. The kid may mean it but it doesn't make it a real thing. And any adult, any adult, should know that. It is patently obvious to me.
His statement is overladen with so much irony, stupidity, victim blaming, and denial that it really makes you wonder if it was extracted from an Onion article. This goes far beyond "liar, liar, pants on fire," this shatters the bullshit detector. Cute little innocent puppies die when such rotten filthy lies are spewed out in the public arena, pure driven snow is pissed and defecated on, and helpless babies cry....I could go on. God reading that literally made me feel ill.

Fuck you, Bernie. Making excuses for pedophilia is just as evil as pedophilia itself. You kiddie-fiddling enabling fuck, it's people like you that make me wish hell was real.
"It's them pesky kids parading around in them robes we give them, I tell you. That or I'm a pedophile. Nah. I'm a man of God." Should be stripped of every last vestige of his power and thrown into jail. And tell the other inmates what he's in for. See what happens.
By the way, I don't mean the article is literally a fraud. I was just remarking on the fact that this dense, evil bishop matched almost word-for-word a parody article in the Onion.
I keep trying to find a way to say this, and can't quite be as clear as I want, so let me take a stab at it and hope you can read through the lack of clarity:
Psychologically normal adult human beings do not look at a 12 year old boy and feel sexually tempted. If a psychologically normal human being sees that 12 year old in his underwear, the normal thought it, "Get dressed and stop goofing off. Now."
I can understand that maybe a 16 or 17 year old might be visually tempting, but grown adults understand that a physically maturing body is not the same thing as a physical mature mind, and Courtney Stodden is a twit.
But still, if this guy feels that 12 year old boys "tempt" molestation, he's showing us something about himself that is very frightening.
From a story in a link at the story Charles linked to:
A later statement from the Bishop's residence on Tenerife explained that the Bishop did not intend to imply that ‘an event as condemnable as the abuse of youngsters’ could be justified
He didn't intend to imply that the abuse could be justified? Then what the hell was he saying, if not exactly that?
I've been having some discussions with some other Catholic friends about these pedophilia incidents, and we are all utterly disgusted with the incidents themselves, as well as the Church leadership's response (or rather, lack of response). They seem to be so comfortably ensconced in their own little, narrow world that they really just have no clue whatsoever; they've lost touch with the human element of their ministry. In serious despair over this right now.
I don't know where to even suggest the Catholic Church, starts to fix, what are clearly systemic problems. I am moved to pity the believers, who have so been abused. Words fail me.

You are being very clear, indeed.
The other issue is that children, even at 13 years old, are pretty powerless to say no to an adult, especially a priest who they otherwise have great admiration. So if he's not simply lying to justify his abhorrent behavior (which he could be) what he perceives as willingness is, as you say, the inability of a child to say no.
The good news, if there could be any, is that this generation and probably the one before, is taught good/bad touch at an early age. They may not be able to prevent molestation because of their age, but they do learn it's ok to tell someone about it. That didn't happen when I was a kid.
A kid consenting is like a kid saying their dad is superman. The kid may mean it but it doesn't make it a real thing. And any adult, any adult, should know that. It is patently obvious to me.
Possibly that's because you are a decent human being?

Earlier this year, the Republican National Committee released a 100-page report detailing how the GOP needed to retrofit its agenda and soften its tone. But if Republican officials had wanted to save time, they could have issued a shorthand summary that read: Be less like Steve King. The Iowa congressman's outspoken conservatism embodies the kind of politics that, in the RNC's own words, alienates ...
The always-on, simultaneous society in which we have found ourselves has altered our relationship to culture, media, news, politics, economics, and power. We are living in a digital temporal landscape, but instead of exploiting its asynchronous biases, we are misguidedly attempting to extend the time-is-money agenda of the Industrial Age into the current era. The result is a disorienting and dehumanizing mess, where the ...

WASHINGTON — Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said Wednesday she's changed her views and now supports gay marriage, becoming the third Senate Republican to do so. n an effort to show how weak our food-stamp programs are, 26 members of Congress have decided to reduce their grocery budgets to $4.50 per day, the going rate for recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Accordingly, the feat has been named the "SNAP Challenge," and is essentially a way for these 26 Democratic representatives to publicize how poor the availability of ...
As a child, I didn't understand most of the midnight phone calls to my mom, or the times women would come over with children in tow, sometimes even in pajamas, and I would be told to go entertain them while Mama ensconced herself in her bedroom with their mother. Once, my mom spotted a bruised woman with three children holding a cardboard sign in ...

It's particularly heavy baggage for Republicans. While Democrats and civil rights groups stand largely united behind the broadest interpretations of the Voting Rights Act, for Republicans it's a trickier matter. The family was from Arkansas. The Dad (Dink) was a furniture salesman in San Bernardino, but back in the way-back-when he used to play 'bones' or 'spoons' in a minstrel show. To relive the golden days of yesteryear he would, from time to time, force his children to accompany him (Ronnie on guitar, Kenny on trombone) in a living room replay of a minstrel routine called "Lazy Bones."
The kids often found this to be an inconvenience, as they were fascinated by, and constantly perfecting new techniques for, The Manly Art Of Fart-Burning. Kenny explained to me that it was scientific - that it demonstrated (this is a real quote) "Compression, ignition, combustion and exhaust." -- Kenny & Ronnie Williams (later immortalized in "Let's Make The Water Turn Black").
