The only way to make sense on this idiotic utterance is as an attack on public transit. Even at that, it's beyond moronic.

Sure, lets piss off every New Yorker that has ever taken the subway (aka all of them). What's the worst that can happen?

Cause nothing says electoral victory (assuming he has more than a snowballs chance in hell of clinching the nomination) more than pissing off several million voters in one shot... /

In a word: Dumbass...

Uh, what? For me, taking a subway is a sign of an average person, not the opposite. Why should it be different in NYC?

I swear there must be a running feud between Romney and Gingrich to see who can be the bigger dumbass/asshole. Every few days or so one miraculously surpasses the other. GOP 2012!

Nothing says "elite" like a subway system that has the reputation (to the rest of the US, since I'm not a New Yorker and can't speak on how they feel about the system) of being being full of homeless people and beggars, and people pissing everywhere.

I've been on the subway and have eaten at Subway, because I'm an aristocrat.

I can only guess that in the millionaire's club that is Gingrich's life, use of public transportation is so rare that he thinks, "Why can't those snobs take a limo like a normal person?"

Actually, the subway system is fucking awesome. It's one of my favorite things about NYC.

The GOP/TP is offering up two choices. That's TWO (2) for you to pick from. That is some conundrum for a GOP/TP person. The Robot or The Android. Slick or Greasy. Rich or Uber Rich. Arrogant or Snotty. Detached or Disinterested. Dumb or Dumber. Clown Car Rolls On.

somehow suggesting that New Yorkers aren’t real Americans.

I guess KSM is sitting in a cell thinking, "wait, so that wasn't real America? All this shit was for NOTHING? Well now I just feel stupid."

No, the real not-America is SF:

And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.

That's exactly what it is. In Newt's world, elitist asshole PC-types take public transport like subways to get around. Normal people drive cars or have other people drive cars for them.

Newt's an asshole. This latest idiocy will only remind people of that.

13 Romantic Heretic  Sat, Feb 4, 2012 6:13:23pm

I'm thinking Newt's also playing to the deep and abiding hatred much of 'the base' has for NYC. By attacking NYC he's hoping to attract these votes.

Toronto has the same problem up here in Canada.

Using mass transit is a sign of being an evil liberal, don't ya know?

Real Americans drive automobiles, preferable trucks.

Couldn't agree more; I love the subway! Been a part of my life since I was a wee tot. The PATH system is also pretty cool too.

16 HappyWarrior  Sat, Feb 4, 2012 9:46:35pm

This is a really lame attack even for a lameass like Newt. I mean really attacking people because they ride the subway. Newt's a pandering jackass. He lives in the DC suburbs and knows as well as anyone that the metro is a good way to travel.

To be fair, my comment was almost entirely based on the acts of New York-based comedians and tv shows, so it's not like I know what I'm talking about.

Admitting that a subject (in this case the NYC subways) may be different and more complex than TV shows and talking bites? It's funny but sad that this is something that an average Lizard is capable of doing (and with good humor I might add), but nearly nobody in today's GOP does.
