Maybe Americans should become French citizens around the age of thirty--since, evidently, that is a key ingredient for Americans deciding to pay attention--listening to the French.

American psychologists, sociologists, family therapists have been saying these very things, evidently to deaf ears, for forty years.

Sad commentary on our culture.

Bullshit article. Oddly enough, I find it amusing it's in the WSJ. If French parents are so good, why do their kids turn out to be French people?

Ah, France, that happy land full of perfectly behaved children and thin, chic women.

I think these books are really more about the fantasies of Americans than anything else.

I notice one thing:

Of course, the French have all kinds of public services that help to make having kids more appealing and less stressful. Parents don't have to pay for preschool, worry about health insurance or save for college. Many get monthly cash allotments—wired directly into their bank accounts—just for having kids.

Why we have no demographic problems that necessitate the paying to be parents, to make things better in American Society, we should have the other things reformed. Scandinavia pays for them as well.

I noticed that too, it didn't belong in the article. The article is about what a parent does when the young kids begin to say 'no' and begin to test the willpower and convictions of their parents. It's called the Terrible Two's (it begins at two years old). That decision is beyond any kind of assistance besides grandparents and close friends saying--'don't put up with that.' But, evidently, the assistance only works if the grandparents and friends are French.
