Florida House Passes Anti-Sharia Law Within a Day of Passing School Prayer Law

Yesterday, within the span of 24 hours, the Florida House passed a bill to allow prayer in public schools and another to crack down on the supposed threat of Sharia law.

In a lopsided 88-27 vote, the chamber okayed a bill to allow any student to deliver “inspirational messages,” including religious prayers, at public-school events. “Look at what just happened in Ohio,” one lawmaker said, referencing the recent school school shooting there. “The kids need to have prayer at school.” Another explained the need by citing the “sex, gambling and all of the moral decay that’s on our televisions and radios.”

The ACLU and Anti-Defamation League believe the bill violates the separation of Church and State and have threatened legal action.

Why the hell are people so stupid? Do you dumb asses in Florida who support these politicians really want your tax money eaten up defending this type non-starter legislation?

A bill that would allow K-12 students to pray during all school events is currently being opposed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and the Liberty Counsel. Both groups warn that such legislation would cost the state money in litigation.

The Liberty Counsel, a Christian legal group, and the ACLU have historically been on different sides of issues — including gay parent adoption, gay marriage and a case involving student-initiated prayers in Duval County schools. However, both groups are now denouncing a bill that has passed in the state Senate and is moving through the Florida House.

Yesterday, the bill passed a House education committee where opponents warned that Senate Bill 98, which is sponsored by state Sen. Gary Siplin, D- Orlando, could lead to “messages of hate.”

I'm encouraged by the bolded bit there.

Also here is what they mean by "messages of hate."

However, Democratic state Reps. Marty Kiar, Luis Garcia, Dwight Bullard and Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed proposed that the measure, if adopted, would give students the ability to deliver hateful messages at school events.

Kiar said that he worried about students who might have a “warped” understanding of what an “inspirational message” is. He argued that students could conceivably deny the Holocaust, give “anti-civil rights” speeches and endorse drug use at a school event.

I'd like to recommend this to the front page! People need to be made aware.

Family Policy Council echoes objections to school prayer bill

The Florida Family Policy Council, one of the most influential anti-gay rights and anti-abortion groups in the state, is joining the chorus of opposition to a school prayer bill quickly making its way through the Florida Legislature.
