No comment from Geller yet but I’m sure she’ll claim victory shortly…

I don’t care for reality TV. I’m not saying I never watch it (guilt, guilt) but that putting actual emotions on display smacks of the gladiatorial ring just a bit. Asking another person to go through anxiety and drama for your amusement is not funny. Asking someone to pretend to go through it, as in a professional actor, is another boat entirely.

I actually watched the show, and, uh….I’m not surprised the ratings were poor. TLC has gone through at least three incarnations since we’ve had cable, each change worse than the previous. It used to be an actual educational channel, morphing into a home improvement channel, morphing into a channel featuring people and psychological illnesses you wouldn’t normally want to meet.

Perhaps the families weren’t freaky enough, perhaps the station is once again going to try to find some type of programming that actually works. It was a tough concept—it’s a show about nothing really happening (Seinfeld) to regular people, who are Muslims, who are not really funny, and who don’t belong on Jerry Springer. The most compelling threads were whether or not a party planner could open a night club, and whether the high school football team made the playoffs after losing a game during Ramadan.

Even the TLC PR campaign that advertisers are pulling out because these people are too normal, didn’t attract viewers.

Anyway, try again—which is what most producers do when their shows fail.

re: #4 Bob Levin

The ratings weren’t poor compared to other TLC shows.

TLC does suck, though.
