It's only a matter of time before Richard Branson inaugurates Virgin Battle Tech Industries.

Seriously.

I don't know about that. How does anyone know that is how they found the location, as opposed to having someone peek over a fence or with binoculars? Air bases are not exactly secret locations.

Peeking over a fence does not give you latitude and longitude coordinates.

In Vietnam, VC mortar attacks on U.S. Bases during '66 & '67 were relatively ineffective even tho there were VC infiltrators working on the bases as cooks, barbers, etc., gathering information. In '67 PA&E (Pacific Architects & Engineers - military contractors) started surveying the bases. And, you guessed it ... from then on the VC mortar attacks were surprisingly accurate.

Same concept applies today except now we have GPS.

Indeed. With a geotag, you have a fairly precise point of aim. Once you have that, all you need is range from your artillery to the target (which if you have a GPS fix as a target area will be automatically provided to you by any GPS receiver), wind speed and direction, and ambient temperature (humidity mattered in Vietnam, but rarely in Iraq). If you have those things, you can place a mortar barrage accurately enough to plaster your target area quite thoroughly.

If you know where you are peeking from, can estimate distance reasonably well and have a compass you can, quite easily.
