Protests Nationwide Over Birth Control Mandate
This isn’t a question of religious freedom at all. If you are Catholic nothing in the rule requires you to buy or use birth control, nothing in the rule requires wholly religious institutions to have insurance that provides birth control.
If you are Catholic and you employ people of other faiths in your non religious institutions, you don’t get to tell them they can’t have birth control covered by insurance.
Their insurance is part of that employee’s compensation package, and the idea of the pope trying to tell people how they can spend their salary, or trying to tell them they can’t buy rubbers or birth control with their salary is what this really amounts to, and the idea of that is really ludicrous to most americans.
Jehovah’s witness non religious institutions don’t get to offer policies that prohibit transfusions, but nobody thinks of that as trampling on their religious freedom on impinging on their concscience. The catholic patriarchs need to get real and quit campaigning for the GOP here.
