Note to self: Avoid Kansas permanently if at all possible.

Oh and let me state for the record that I am a Christian and I DO NOT believe that my "religious freedom" gives me the right to hate and discriminate on people without repercussion.

I also don't think Gays, black people, latinos and single mothers are second class citizens.

Religious tyranny trying to masquerade as religious freedom.

4 RadicalModerate  Fri, Mar 30, 2012 12:49:32pm

Christian Reconstructionism at its very finest. To these individuals, things like the 14th Amendment don't apply to them because those pesky gays are just subhuman anyways (where have we heard this argument before?)

Interesting post - I'd clarify the title to note that Pending Kansas Legislation Would Make Discrimination Legal. It's not yet law - it's passed the House, awaiting the Senate and Governor's approval.

So, if I start a religion to justify it, I can do whatever I want? That would be really cool if I wanted to live in a dystopian nightmare. Which I don't.

re: #5 lawhawk

Unfortunately it'll pass. I've lived in KS most of my life, and there isn't exactly much opposition to this bill around here. (The Governor's already agreed to sign it when it goes through the senate)

Hmmmm. How about a Civil War in reverse? No need to fire a shot; just draw a line around Certain States and kick them the heck out of the Union.

We of course will accept "refugees" who want to live in a civilized country, where people don't live in the Dark Ages.

These "Christians" sure aren't very Christlike:
Mathew 25:41-45
41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

re: #10 aagcobb

I'm sure the Conservative Bible Project can explain to you how that was mistranslated or added later by that well known socialist James I.
I did search for any reference to how it was translated by the good folks at CBP and came up empty. I'm sure Andy Schlafly will have it available for all of us in no time.

Orwell laffs.

And another socially-regressive state legislature takes a giant step toward replacing democracy and civil rights with theocracy and legalized intolerance/discrimination.

The Greatest (Movie) Speech Ever Made
73 years later is still relevant and powerful as ever. It's also because of this movie that Charlie Chaplin was labelled a "premature anti-fascist."

Your Weekly Peggy Noonan Three Martini Column
We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, ...

4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. We're in a whole new world of hating people based solely on their opinions on a few key issues, and since this is unexplored territory, our conversations about politics are usually only a couple notches beyond the "hold your breath until the other ...

LAPD Reformed as Federal Oversight Lifted, City Leaders Say
Los Angeles leaders say the Los Angeles Police Department has undergone a dramatic transformation since federal oversight of the agency was ordered 12 years ago. The dismissal Wednesday of the so-called consent decree, which arose largely out of the Rampart corruption scandal and addressed basic problems of accountability that stretched back decades, delivered a largely symbolic, but nonetheless important milestone for the LAPD ...

What to do in Orange County - LA - San Diego
Seems a good way to solicit ideas for touristing destinations and activities. Will have 4-5 days so some opportunity for visiting multiple sites. And since I do have an interest in history and military history items in that area will be welcome suggestions. (The USS Midway down in San Diego is already on the list.) If there is anything California-geology related that would be ...
