Florida Pastor Terry Jones in Dearborn.. yawn..
Christian pastor Terry Jones and his sidekick Wayne Sapp came all the way from Florida to Dearborn Michigan to whip up the crowds with their well rehearsed anti-Muslim rhetoric. It was a big FAIL, unworthy of the gas money they spent to make the trip. Press and Guide: Terry Jones demonstration goes on without incident
“Talking through a hand-held loudspeaker to a crowd of mostly media and 15-20 supporters, Sapp criticized local clergy and Christianity in general for straying from the Bible…
Somewhat ironically, in the background on the mosque’s digital marquee was the scrolling message ‘A Peaceful Easter to our Christian Friends and Neighbors…’
He was critical of the nighttime football practices held by Fordson High School during Ramadan, something school officials characterize as a way to accommodate the largely Muslim players at a time when most of them are fasting during the day. Jones also spoke out against the halal food offerings in Dearborn Public Schools and the footbaths installed years ago at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
That the Muslim student athletes play high school football should be considered a positive sign for people concerned that Arab American Muslim students in Dearborn would shun American culture and refuse to assimilate. As for the costs incurred by the municipality for turning on the lights to practice after dark for a few weeks, those costs were small compared to the costs of providing the Easter Sunday security detail for Jones’ public rant.
