UC-Davis Pepper-Spray Was Wrong, Panel Says
And the Police Union is dead wrong to resist in any way the release of the fulll report. Only full transparency allows a society to regulate the law enforcers.
UC Davis police officers should not have pepper-sprayed Occupy protesters in November, a University of California investigative panel has concluded.
In a report released Wednesday, the UC task force said the demonstration did not require the use of pepper spray and that the spray was not approved for use by the officers.
The report, available to the public on the UC Davis website — www.ucdavis.edu — was delayed more than a month after police sued to prevent officers’ names and other details from being released. After several court hearings, UC agreed to remove most officers’ names.
