That's just sad. Oh and by the way Stalin and Hitler were by and large opposed to abortion. Just wanted to bust that right wing myth. Not that it makes abortion opponents anything like those two but I am sick of hearing that Stalin and Hitler were for legal abortion. They weren't.

Waaah! I can't impose my beliefs on others not of my faith so I'm being oppressed!

He'd have made a great Renaissance Pope.

Got a no-go on the vid. Checking later--I want to see how close the guy gets to trashing his organization's tax status.

I wonder what Mr. Jenky would say had he been a bishop during WWII.

I wonder what Mr. Jenky would say had he been a bishop in Germany during WWII.

Jenky probably would've asked the SS what he could do to help out with the "Jew" problem.

He is NUTS. Where are the other Bishops on this sort of comment?

They are wherever the GOP is on Nugent.

It's sad, I used to have a modicum of respect for the Catholic church. Now I don't have respect for Catholics (not only because of this article either).

Stalin prohibited abortion, period. (Well, maybe with exceptions for life of mother, etc. - I don't know.).

For Hitler abortion only mattered with "Aryans". With "Uebermenschen" it was sometimes even encouraged.

re: #11 Capricious Casserole of Calamity

Untermenschen, you mean.

I don't know so much about abortions, but I certainly know that the Nazis didn't care whether they killed pregnant Jews or Roma. Also, forced sterilization of mentally disabled people, Roma, and "rhineland bastards" (offspring of Germans or whites and French soldiers from colonial Africa [i.e. black]). Oh, and death sentences for race mixing (usually between Jews and Germans).

Nazis took their eugenics very seriously.

Yeah, my brain fart. Glad you're posting again btw, if rarely.

Come to think of it, there must have been standard procedures to "deal with" unwanted pregnancies from brothels set up by and for the Wehrmacht as well as from the brothels in concentration camps. Not to mention the thousands of cases of rape by German soldiers, especially in the Soviet Union.

Watch the Biggest Explosion Ever Seen on the Moon
NASA scientists recorded the biggest explosion from a meteorite impact seen on the moon in eight years of monitoring. The lunar burst was caused by a 40-kilogram boulder-sized rock slamming into the surface at about 90,000 kph. It generated a flash 10 times brighter than anything seen before, which came from the thermal glow of molten rock at the point of impact. More: ...

Scientists Agree on Climate Change, Why Doesn’t the Public? : NPR
A new study confirms that the vast majority of scientists who research the climate accept that the planet is warming and human beings are largely responsible. Yet a large slice of the American public believes that scientists are deeply split about global warming. More: Scientists Agree on Climate Change, Why Doesn't the Public? : NPR

The Greatest (Movie) Speech Ever Made
73 years later is still relevant and powerful as ever. It's also because of this movie that Charlie Chaplin was labelled a "premature anti-fascist."

We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, ...

4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. We're in a whole new world of hating people based solely on their opinions on a few key issues, and since this is unexplored territory, our conversations about politics are usually only a couple notches beyond the "hold your breath until the other ...

LAPD Reformed as Federal Oversight Lifted, City Leaders Say
Los Angeles leaders say the Los Angeles Police Department has undergone a dramatic transformation since federal oversight of the agency was ordered 12 years ago. The dismissal Wednesday of the so-called consent decree, which arose largely out of the Rampart corruption scandal and addressed basic problems of accountability that stretched back decades, delivered a largely symbolic, but nonetheless important milestone for the LAPD ...

What to do in Orange County - LA - San Diego
Seems a good way to solicit ideas for touristing destinations and activities. Will have 4-5 days so some opportunity for visiting multiple sites. And since I do have an interest in history and military history items in that area will be welcome suggestions. (The USS Midway down in San Diego is already on the list.) If there is anything California-geology related that would be ...
