Apparently Andy must also believe that the human stomach achieves digestion by breaking atoms down into subatomic particles, given his "proof" above.

This is why our science scores continue to sink. The number of people who believe this way continues to grow. We can laugh but pretty soon they are going to be asking for legislation restricting travel to prevent people falling off the edge of the world.

Haha, saw this a few months ago. There's lots more fun stuff in the "Theory of Relativity" pages, which has gems like these:

The theory of relativity is a mathematical system that allows no exceptions. It is heavily promoted by liberals who like its encouragement of relativism and its tendency to mislead people in how they view the world.[note 1]

There are no Counterexamples to the Bible. This is in contrast with:
Counterexamples to Evolution (60 and growing)
Counterexamples to Relativity (39 and growing)
Counterexamples to an Old Earth (39 and growing)
Counterexamples to Global Warming (under construction; 6 and growing)

sounds like a fucking Subgenius joke

Tell that to the survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Andy.

For those who might not know, this buffoon, this numbskull, this epic of derpitude, is the son of RR icon Phyllis Schlafly.

How did it happen, Phyllis?
Drop him on his head?
Too much "Biblical" discipline?
Paint chips in his formula?

Inquiring Functional minds want to know.

9 Mentis Fugit  Tue, Apr 24, 2012 12:11:41am

Does Little Mister Schlafly use a GPS? (To achieve accuracy requirements, GPS uses principles of general relativity to correct the satellites' atomic clocks.)

Andy, Jesus thinks you're a fucking moron.

Hey, Schlafy would've fit right in with these guys:

Our students will be so much further ahead in science and math and rational thinking when the Theocracy is in power. Liberal claptrap. Commie Plot. Socialist Agenda. No different than the Taliban. Wisdom is pain. Ignorance bliss. "Timmy? When heat is applied to water and it turns to vapor, what is that called?" "GODS WILL." "Very good Timmy. No go reflect on his mysterious ways."

Even more depressing. Andy has an engineering degree from Princeton, which means he probably took the same physics classes I did (though at different times). I know for sure we didn't address relativity freshman year, and he likely took EE classes sophomore year and onward, but jeez louise, E = mc^2 is one the most verified, incontrovertible consequences of the theory of special relativity. Does the term "atomic bomb" mean anything to Andy? I swear, if it were possible, I'd petition Princeton to rescind his BSE just on the basis of this one article.

Well, I tried to tweet this article from LGF and got error 400. Anyone else have the same problem?

I scanned the Biblical Scientific Foreknowledge entry. It's so fractally wrong, that I wouldn't know where to start correcting it. Most of what is there is a collection of post facto hand waving arguments that, "Yes, the Bible is always right" and "Modern science has only just begun to catch up to how doggone smart those Bible writers were."

This is the usual genre in Quranic apologetics.

Sadly there is a market for this sort of stupidity out there. The lack of critical thinking in education is astonishing.

Actual overheard question (from an adult): "When you burn a candle, where does the wax go?" I suppose wondering about such mysteries at 30 is better than not thinking about it at all, but that woman's education apparently failed her. The woman she was with didn't seem to know either.

22 calochortus  Tue, Apr 24, 2012 8:19:00am

OK, I just read the "Biblical Scientific Foreknowledge" entry. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Anyway, here's a suggestion Andy-pick a few things from the bible's science sections and select the actual predictions. Some things that will produce new and useful scientific discoveries. How about clean energy or a cure for cancer? Perhaps a little something that will give us a tool for fighting viruses? You don't like relativity? Where does the bible contain the clues to help us understand physics?
Going back and thinking something predicted what we now know is easy. It's also pretty useless. Be bold-predict something for the future and then put your money where your mouth is and support the research. I won't be holding my breath.

23 SanFranciscoZionist  Tue, Apr 24, 2012 9:54:32am

One correction here: "I do not understand how physics works and don't care to try" is not a 'mystical belief', it is an awkwardly worded statement of absolute truth from the mind of Andy Schlafly.

Obamacare Will Be a Debacle — for Republicans
Well, the preliminary numbers for CA are in -- and they're looking very good, with costs coming in below expectations. At this point, it looks as if this thing is indeed going to work. And think about the political dynamics. Because the Supreme Court decided to let states opt out of the Medicaid expansion, some states -- notably Texas -- will have a ...

An Interplanetary GPS Using Pulsar Signals
Spacecraft could determine their position anywhere in the solar system to within five kilometres using signals from x-ray pulsars, say astronomers. Navigating in space is a tricky business. The usual method relies on Earth-based tracking stations to work out a spacecraft's distance using radio waves, a process that is accurate to within a metre or so. That's fine for the radial distance, but ...

SIGN THE PETITION, learn about it: Feminist Campus - Campaign to Expose Fake Clinics
"Crisis Pregnancy Centers" (CPCs) or Pregnancy Resource Centers advertise on your campus and in your community. They pose as comprehensive women's health clinics and advertise under "abortion" and "family planning" services, but do not offer abortion services, contraception, or referrals. CPCs often provide false information about abortion, birth control, and the effectiveness of condoms for the prevention of STIs and HIV. Ultimately, their ...

4 Reasons ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Is Secretly About Drugs
Nice, right? Anyway, here's my thesis: Raiders of the Lost Ark is not an action-adventure movie about an archaeologist who plays by his own rules and saves the day. Instead, the film is an exploration of Marion Ravenwood's crippling drug addiction. An addiction that was born from her unhealthy relationship and continued association with Indiana Jones. Is it true? Who cares. Can I prove ...

Woolwich: a History of Violence
As shocking and appalling as Wednesdays brutal murder was, Woolwich (wool-ich) is a not so surprising location for such an attack. As someone pretty local to Woolwich, I thought I might give a little profile of the area, if anyone is interested. WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...
