These people? Which people would that be? Nothing like a bigoted sweeping generalization for a lead in.

How sad.

Indeed.

The people have no respect for life whether it be human or animals.

Which people, exactly?

Sounds to me like they're making the best of a very bad situation:

Owner Mohammed Awaida said he opened the “South Forest Park” in 2007, only to lose a number of animals during Israel’s military offensive against Hamas that began in December 2008. During the three-week offensive, launched in response to rocket attacks on Israel, Awaida said he could not reach the zoo, and many animals died of neglect and starvation.

“The idea to mummify animals started after the Gaza war because a number of animals like the lion, the tiger, monkeys and crocodiles died,” he said. “So we asked around and we learned from the web how to start.”

Formaldehyde and sawdust provided the basic tools, though Awaida acknowledges he is no expert.

Gaza’s zoos are used to resorting to odd ways to get by amid the territory’s multiple woes. In 2009, a zoo in Gaza City exhibited white donkeys painted with black stripes to look like zebras because it was too expensive to replace two zebras who were neglected during the Israeli offensive.

Bigoted? WTF?

I'm talking about the people running Gaza which would be Hamas, the terror group in charge. How is that bigoted?

Umm...

Gaza has no government body that oversees zoos

What the fuck does Hamas have anything to do this? Nothing. Any fucking excuse to hang Hamas around the necks of any and all Palestinians.

Give me a break. You're comment is self-explanatory. You said, "These people have no respect for life whether it be human or animals." Whether it be human? You get that from this story? They' have no respect for "human life" because they're turning to "stuffed animals?" Heaven forbid that we try and understand their plight. Call them inhumane in an effort to dehumanize them.

Hamas is in charge of Gaza. I would think if they cared about these animals they could find time in between shooting rockets into Israel to clean up the place and take care of these animals.

This statement is beyond dumb. I'm getting out of here before some of it rubs off on me.

AFAIC, Hamas leadership should be captured and tried as terrorists. I just don't see how this story ties up with this.

Oh please. Hamas said in their own words what they think about human life.

Suddenly it's about Hamas, firing rockets, and terrorism. Right. It was only about the zoo keepers.

Does Hamas run the zoo?

There’s no zookeeper on the premises. Gaza has no government body that oversees zoos, and medical treatment is done by consulting over the phone with zoo veterinarians in Egypt.

I didn't think so.

Hamas bad.

Oh btw, here is an article pretty much completely unrelated to the sentiment that's been the only reason for my post.

Gus,
Great point with the Youtube video. Hamas said very clearly that they do not care about the human-shield lives of women and children, nor the lives of Israelis. Somehow the speaker forgot to rank the lives of Hamas leaders or zoo animals but they are at opposite ends of the scale.

It may be contrary to your sensitivities, but you should be made aware that there are different cultural attitudes to animals in different parts of the world, and those attitudes do not coincide with our own. You can call it a fact of life not to be commented on, or you can see it as a more primitive culture, assuming you value your own.

I have seen people swerve out of their way on a highway to hit a dog, and laugh hysterically when they did.

I have seen pigs in a zoo, exhibited to show what filthy animals they are, by making sure they live in filth.

I have seen other animals kept in conditions that would result in criminal prosecution in this country.

There could be much more.

Can one not put a spotlight on such practices and attitudes without being labeled a bigot?

I think I see what's going on, here. Some of us look at this & know that Hamas is in charge over there & no, they don't care about the animals in the zoo, or having a zoo, or anything beyond killing Jews. Others of us look at this & say that obviously some people are trying to have a zoo even tho' the powers-that-be aren't going to fund it. Imprecise language was used &, well, we all know how well that goes. Can we all agree that everyone actually has a point, no matter how tenuous the other thinks it may be?

A new study confirms that the vast majority of scientists who research the climate accept that the planet is warming and human beings are largely responsible. 4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. LAPD Reformed as Federal Oversight Lifted, City Leaders Say
Los Angeles leaders say the Los Angeles Police Department has undergone a dramatic transformation since federal oversight of the agency was ordered 12 years ago. The dismissal Wednesday of the so-called consent decree, which arose largely out of the Rampart corruption scandal and addressed basic problems of accountability that stretched back decades, delivered a largely symbolic, but nonetheless important milestone for the LAPD ...
